CTIA: Garmin upgrades Mobile with new UI and Google Local Search

by: Bena Roberts Monday, March 31st, 2008

Garmin has announced to updates at CTIA for its mobile solutions. The first is a new UI for its mobile solution and new Google Local search.

These upgrades will be available on a variety of handsets and platforms including BlackBerry, Symbian and Windows Mobile smartphones. These new features are in addition to a long list of rich features and real-time content included with Garmin Mobile’s current subscription based service that includes turn-by-turn, voice prompted directions, as well as traffic, weather conditions and forecasts, fuel prices and more.

Garmin Mobile features are: nuvi-like interface with Where To and View Map icons. There is also turn by turn voice prompted directions and automatic recalculation.

(Personal note, I have a Garmin Nuvi 250 which is brilliant.)

Google Local Search
The Google Local Search finds points of interest online for locations for users. This means that keyword searches are used if you are looking for Coffee or Wifi etc. There is also a Quick Search feature for hot services such as food, accommodation or petrol. So this will save typing and provide one click access to popular in car features.

What we think?
I will go and test and report back.
