Ok, so rumours about Dell bringing out it’s own mobile device have been circulating since 2007. But several analysts are speculating that a Dell smartphone might be just around the corner.
“The exact timing of Dell’s launch is not clear but our sources indicate it is closer to reality than before,” says Shaw Wu, an analyst with Kaufman Bros. in a research note. “We believe it is likely inevitable that Dell enter the cellphone space given the cannibalization of PCs by smartphones and highly functional mobile devices.”

What we think?
If what the rumour mill says is true, then Dell has had ex-Motorola exec Ron Garriques brainstorming for two years, taking notes and watching the mobile space. A lot of people (myself included) are quite excited to think about what Motoral might have up it’s sleeve.
But there are so many ifs and mights around this story that it’s hard to be really interested. The Palm Pre, the current darling of the smartphone market, is just around the corner. If Dell is planning on making splash, they’d want to either wait until the Palm Pre excitement dies down, or have something truly spectacular lined up.
