Develop an iPhone app in 1/10 of the time says Spot Specific

Rating: The tools you need are all in the cloud

Regular readers will have noticed GoMo News‘ keenness to promote any technology or solution which enables individuals or organisations to develop mobile apps swiftly and at the lowest possible cost. Well, British company, Spot Specific, believes it has found just such a solution through ‘cloud computing’. The good news is that if you want to try out this particular platform with a 14 day free trial, you can apply right now. The company calls its cloud-based platform, Apps a la Carte. It argues that the platform is capable of publishing complex, custom apps to iPhone and Android devices without the need to employ developers or to have any programming knowledge. That’s fighting talk in any language.
Essentially Spot Specific says any individual or organisation can quickly and cost-effectively create and deploy an app using only their web browser.

It’s a case of dragging and dropping content and actions into place using its online tools.

Simultaneously custom functionality can be coded in the same environment using standard web technologies.

SpotSpecific says that in a like-for-like test for both iPhone and Android, identical apps were developed in just 10 per cent of the time that it would have taken a developer using conventional tools.

Significantly, the app was then published to both platforms’ respective app stores without the need for any software coding.

At the very least, SpotSpecific’s claims look like well worth investigating.

We visited their “try it now” page… and it just sat there forever and said “loading” and never did anything at all.

    Great site, guys.

    Hi Patty,
At the moment, the tool requires the use of a WebKit-based browser, It may be that this is the issue. We’ll work on making this point clearer on the log-in screen so that there’s no confusion.

    Thanks for your feedback.

I’ve been playing around with the beta test for several days now and quite enjoying myself. I’ve done 2 apps and am getting started on a third. It is currently in beta so isn’t perfect, but most things I’ve tried have worked as they said they would on the tin!
