DeviceAnywhere launches LG-specific mobile development lab

device_anywhere DeviceAnywhere announced today that it is launching a remote mobile development service just for LG. The LG Virtual Developer Lab (VDL) has been created in partnership with the mobile manufacturer.

First, who’s DeviceAnywhere?

I tend to report on DeviceAnywhere when I can, because I love their service. They maintain huge banks of mobile devices, over 2,000 models the last time I checked. Mobile developers can access a virtual version of that device remotely, and test their product. The tests are done on an actual mobile, and it allows developers to test on a huge range of devices with great ease. Overall, it really helps with both the speed and the cost of development.

Right. Now how about this LG VDL then?

The VDL is open only to members of LGs Mobile Developer Network. It’s built on the DeviceAnywhere platform, and it gives LG developers access to 140 different devices from the manufacturer. It’s scalable, to allow both very small and very large developers to test, build and deploy apps for LG.

From the release:

“LG represents one of the fastest growing brands in mobile, with flagship devices such as the LG Cookie and LG Shine creating the ultimate end user-centric experience. Complementing these devices is the content and applications that our developer community creates. As a result, we are dedicated to ensuring they have access to the best tools and services available,” said Jae un Kim, Chief Engineer of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “We are excited about the launch of the LG Virtual Developer Lab and seeing how the LG community uses it to create innovative new services and content for our customers.”

“Content and services has become a fundamental tool in the personalisation of the mobile handset and as a result a key element in the purchasing decision. Mobile content developers must employ the most advanced development solutions available to ensure the creation of the high-quality content that today’s market demands,” said Faraz Syed, CEO and co-founder of DeviceAnywhere. “For this reason, DeviceAnywhere has become the ‘go-to’ solution for mobile handset manufacturers and service providers worldwide – and LG has taken notice and recognised the value in extending the services available to its developer community worldwide.”

What we think?

It should be pretty obvious from the above article that I’m something of a DeviceAnywhere fan. It’s interesting to see LG getting a “splinter” service created. LG is pretty hungry at the moment - it tends to make wild claims about climbing the ladder of mobile manufacturers in the world. And getting more people involved in creating good apps for your devices is a good way to attract sales.
