Rating: recipe for success this time for Nokia?
Nokia has just announced that the California-based mobile games developer Digital Chocolate has signed up to publish a variety of titles for the N-Gage platform launching in autumn.
From the press release:
“Digital Chocolate has been a driving force in promoting social interaction within the context of mobile gaming,” said Gregg Sauter, Nokia’s director of third party publishing. “They are also an award winning publisher dedicated to bringing innovative games to the masses. It is these qualities that make Digital Chocolate a perfect fit for our N-Gage offering, which allows publishers to innovate with respect to quality, ease of use and community interaction.”
Digital Chocolate’s newest game series, DChoc Café, brings an exciting range of games to the N-Gage platform. DChoc Cafe merges the most popular and accessible casual games with the next generation of social gaming on mobile.
A “virtual café” featuring casual card, board and puzzle games similar to those found at a café or other neighbourhood meeting place, DChoc Café offers users the opportunity to stay connected with friends through mobile gaming when they want. Additional features in DChoc Café allow players to create customized characters, earn prizes and make game recommendations.
What we think:
Well, Nokia’s operator-independent strategies have yet to amount to a great deal and the strategy has zigged about all over the place. On the other hand, Digital Chocolate’s approach is social networking via mobile by a different name. This combination is an interesting recipe. It will be enlightening to see how the cookie crumbles.
