dotmobi certification?

Rating: WHAT?

Mobi
Dotmobi is offering professional certification;
• Certificate for display and a personalized .mobi site with proof of certification
• Access to dotMobi trustmarks for use in marketing materials
• Inclusion in dotMobi’s directory of certified developers for client referrals.

What we think
.mobi certification – now we have heard at all. dotmobi doesn’t have the acclaim of Microsoft and this is hardly a Microsoft Certified Professional exam (MCP) -which is around the same price. Just as dotmobi was getting on the GoMo News good books it does this. Oh dear.

I’m sorry we’re not in your good books any more :-)
I’m not sure what you hold against our efforts… We are basically trying to demystify the process of mobile development. And certifying developers who can efficiently build sites is an important part of that: it’s a really easy way to help give some confidence to the grass roots of content provision.

That’s an important part of enabling the whole mobile ecosystem, and so we hope you’ll be supportive!

James, I hear you, but is certification the way forward? Do you need to be qualified to make a mobile ready site? I thought the point of .mobi and the W3C was to liberate the hobby developer - not to restrict with certification.

I also think the cost of the certification is on the expensive side. As a MCP professional myself - I know what it is like cram for exams - go in - pass with flying colours and then still not know anything about Microsoft…
thanks for your feedback, bena
