Rating: I can’t m:metrics believe it

I got this email from M:Metrics today, it reminded me how I watched the footie in shock last night and what a huge effect sport has on mobile. M:Metrics’ Tina Lorkin wrote:

Following last night’s disaster at Wembley, I thought you might be interested in the below data we pulled together today. The data shows UK mobile subscriber usage of sports information via their browser, downloads and SMS requests over the last two years.
 M:Metrics data shows that consumption of sports information on mobile phones will suffer as a result of last nights match
 Mobile is all about live content and immediacy

We can all look forward to another dip in mobile audience in 2008 as we did in 2007.

What we think?
As an expat I too have sent many an SMS to friends during football matches saying things like “no way, refs a ******” and the usual banter that goes around football. The English are without a doubt extremely passionate about football and money will no doubt be lost – especially for UK mobile operators.
