Swisscom and UEFA EURO 2008
I saw Germany win the football on Saturday in a bar at the seaside in the town Emden. We have a holiday home there and it’s just a lovely holiday and fishing village. There was also the Matjes (fish) festival on and the atmosphere was great.
But watching the football in Germany is not as exciting as in the UK. The Brits are so passionate about footie – I missed the “la, la, la-la-la-la, la la”. There was no singing or cheering just beer and men and concentrated TV viewing – yawn.
Back to the point -
EURO 2008 – if you didn’t know is in Switzerland and Austria. Swisscom incumbent operator will serve the technology
From the press release:
On 12 May 2008, the final phase in the run-up to UEFA EURO 2008™ got underway at the four match venues in Switzerland: after detailed planning, Swisscom installed the communications infrastructure for the tournament in and around the Swiss football stadiums within the space of two weeks. Countless kilometres of optical fibre, telephone and other data cables will allow 7,000 media representatives, organisers and teams to rapidly communicate up-to-the-minute, comprehensive information right around the world.
Swisscom is also equipped to serve the billions of viewers who will be watching the big event on their TV screens. To enable successful worldwide TV coverage, Swisscom Broadcast has worked hand-in-hand with UEFA Media Technologies (UMET) toprovide transmission of images from the UEFA EURO 2008™ stadiums in Switzerland to UEFA’s International Broadcast Centre in Vienna. The video equipment in the Swiss stadiums and the optical networks have been installed and successfully tested. Meanwhile, the teams of technicians have received intensive training – their task is to ensure the transmission of the video and audio signals.
