Ireland-based company FancyFon has just announced that it will now support Android on its FAMOC management platform. What does that mean from Android owners? Not much… but it could mean a lot for business owners.
What is FAMOC?
FAMOC is a product aimed straight at businesses that need their employees to use their mobiles a lot. It allows a central computer to manage the settings and applications across a wide range of mobiles – so far it supports all the major versions of Symbian, Windows Mobile and iPhone OS. Now Android is on there as well. For businesses, this means that employees don’t need to worry about keeping their apps up to date, or know how to change their settings to allow (for example) access to work email. One person with FAMOC on their computer can do it all.
This does mean that the person who is managing the device through FAMOC can access employees phone screens, keyboards, applications and files over-the-air – so it’s not going to be welcomed by anyone who doesn’t have a separate work and private mobile.
Dietmar Fuchs, COO at FancyFon commented, “As mobile technology evolves, Android is gaining market share and is being viewed as an increasingly important player. FancyFon has reacted to this by extending its support of Android functionality, to satisfy the growing market demand.”
What we think?
FancyFon have update their platform in a sensible manner – it made sure that S60 devices worked first, then added Windows Mobile and iPhone in that order. Not it’s got Android on there – and quite a few business-oriented Android devices are heading our way soon. I’m just wondering why Blackberry isn’t supported. If anyone knows if there’s some technical reason for that, please drop me an email at cian@gomonews.net, or leave a comment below.
UPDATE: Oops - ignore that last part! FAMOC does indeed support Blackberry… see the comment from FancyFon CTO Bartosz Leoszewski below.
