We have been checking out the Helio device since CTIA and quite frankly it’s a tad sexy.
Helio rides the waves?

Helio is a US MVNO that targets the trendy and tech savvy 18 to 35 year old market place. It is not year one year old and was founded by SK Telecom and Earthlink. It announced a new device called the Ocean. The Ocean is a 3G handset with two slide out keypad. One keypad is numeric and the other QWERTY.
Other features include GPS, Google Maps, Buddy Beacon, music services and MySpace on Helio.

Messaging dashboard?
The Ocean has also be described as a messaging device because of its dual keypads. But it is also an IM device. Helio has partnered with fastmobile for a central messaging dashboard?
What does this mean?
The new device is integrated with fastmobile’s fmX platform. This provides easy interaction to IM, email and social networking. This is essential for the Helio MVNO and the target market. Ease of interaction on a mobile device will drive the use of new services and make users stick to MVNO’s. Simple communication is the basis of building strong mobile communities. On the Ocean MyHelio email and IM is interoperable with most of the popular social networks and sites.
From the press release:
“The fmX platform was created to activate mobile communities by integrating popular communication applications — from IM to email to social networking — into one easy-to-use interface and with one log-in,” said John Hoffman, CEO, fastmobile. “Helio is leveraging fmX within Ocean’s Integrated Messaging Service, which reinvents mobile messaging with its richer experience, enabling immediate community connection and interaction.”
“Staying in touch with friends is at the core of everything Helio does and the Ocean integrated messaging platform and address book ‘presence detection’ makes this faster and easier than ever before,” said Doug Britt, Senior Director of Products and Services, Helio. “fastmobile has been a key partner in Helio’s creation of the ultimate social networking tool, delivering the convenience, simplicity and familiarity of the desktop communications experience in the mobile world.”
