Foreca.mobi goes Latin

by: Bena Roberts Thursday, April 10th, 2008

I read this press release about Foreca.mobi (mobile weather company) launching a site in Latin and I emailed the company asking, “do you mean the dead language I wasted a GCSE at Northolt High School in London?”

As I thought that memories of my silver haired teacher whose name I just cannot remember sprung to my mind. The I remember for some strange reason Cornelius es en porto? No idea.

But the reason that Foreca is now in Latin is for a bit of fun and also lots of names of clouds are in Latin. This might be one way to keep the Roman Empire alive anyway - I am sure Zeus will be pleased.

From the press release

Cumulus, stratus and cirrus clouds are well knownamong all the weather freaks. The Latin names for the clouds have
already been used more than two hundred years. Foreca – a Finnish
weather service company has taken weather services back to its roots.
Foreca’s mobile weather service foreca.mobi is now available also in Latin.
“Latin is the language of the science and also meteorology. We want to
show respect to this great science and therefore we made foreca.mobi
also available in Latin language”, commented Marko Moilanen, the vice
president of business development in Foreca
. “We also want to show that
Foreca can offer international weather services in any language in the
world.”
