The Finnish weather service company that also is on Nokia’s Widsets widget portfolio has launched a new free mobile internet weather service called foreca.mobi.

From the press release:“Foreca has a great amount of weather information for mobile phone users. New technologies enable us to provide this content for larger audiences than ever before”, said Tiina Asula, sales director of Foreca. “Foreca.mobi is free to its users. The weather service is financed by mobile advertising, so the business model from internet world is now expanding to the mobile world.”

What we think?
I just took this for a test drive and its nifty and simple. It wasn’t fast –but that might be because I am out of 3G at the moment. I personally think though that the information is a little bit too deep. For example dewpoint etc.

At the end of the day – people want to know what the weather is an sometimes the confusion of what degrees might actually mean can be portrayed with simply “hot, warm, cold”.

Foreca is clearly a serious weather company but moving forward, I think that I would like to see a little bit more fun in this and perhaps a community. For example; I have loads of weather stories from my recent trip to Australia and China. But god only knows – only weather freaks will like them!

On the advertising side, which is the way the service is now funded I can only see one Widsets banners so perhaps this is a new deal with enpocket/Nokia.
