FOX releases mobile TV interaction service… from mobile radio company Nabbit?
FOX networks is launching an interactive mobile TV service with Nabbit. The Dollhouse Interactive channel will work in conjunction with the new series premier this Friday. This is Nabbit’s first foray into mobile TV. Up until now it has focused on it’s radio service, which allows users to download info about whatever song they’re listening to.
Duing Friday’s episode, viewers can answer a trivia question about the show on the interactive channel inside Nabbit. Winners will be entered into a draw to win an autographed wardrobe item worn by Dollhouse star Eliza Dushku.
Nabbit will also allow people to set up a text reminder to watch Friday’s episode. By texting the word “Dollhouse” to 878787, Nabbit will text viewers on Friday afternoon with a reminder to tune in.
From the release:
“We are excited to work with FOX on this project,” said John Freund, CEO of Jump Technologies. “We have been doing interactive radio for over a year now. DOLLHOUSE represents our first interactive television event. We look forward to leveraging the Nabbit platform to allow users to interact with TV in many ways in the future.”
What we think?
Ok, so while this isn’t exactly the biggest announcement ever, it does say good things about Nabbit. Not content to produce services for one medium, it has bridged radio and TV. Convergence really is a keyword in mobile at the moment. Companies won’t be able to focus all their efforts on one niche service in the future. If they do, the goal is ultimately to be bought by a larger body or converge with other upwardly mobile companies. It’s those companies who offer a broad spectrum service who will see the most take-up.
