fring is a free, downloadable mobile phone application enabling free mVoIP (mobile VoIP) calls, real-time presence and live chat with multiple IM providers over mobile data networks or a Wi-Fi connection.

Now it has integrated the ICQ instant messaging (IM) community into its mobile VoIP platform. Avi Shechter, co-founder & CEO, fring, said, “With ICQ as well as Skype, Google Talk and MSN Messenger, fring now facilitates mobile talk & chat for most IM users worldwide, on more than 350 mass market mobile handsets, and operating over any data network including GPRS/EDGE/3G, Wi-Fi and EVDO/CDMA.”

We like the idea very much and wonder if it’s so easy to do, why the most of the world’s mobile operators have made such a palaver out of providing IM.
