Further adventures of TV and mobile devices: now we’ve got a GRAMMY social networking app
Not content to simply have the GRAMMY music awards on the weekend, CBS has an entire week of programming. GRAMMY week is seven days worth of events leading up the music awards - and at the end you get to watch the largest music promotional event in the US on television. But app developer Diversion Media wants more than that, and is releasing the first official GRAMMY iPhone application.

What’s the story?

The app is free to download, and is broken into three sections. The first is called ‘Guess the GRAMMYs’ - you can guess ahead of time who will win in which category, and afterwards you get sent an email with your score. There’s a social media based “Challenge your Friends” part, which allows you to invite friends to join your GRAMMY group, and compare scores - so the idea is that you feel like you’re in the same room as your friends, shooting the breeze about music trivia. And finally, the “Did you Know” part has information about what acts are coming up, who’s on screen, and other information about the history of the show

What we think?

This kind of application appeals strongly to a certain philosophy about the future of television. This concept is based around the idea that as Digital TV becomes more prevalent, it will become far more interactive. Viewers will be able to access additional layers of information and activities on top of their normal viewing, turning TV from a completely passive activity into a more active one. And a heavy part of this drive is centered around mobile devices - which can be a deeply immersive replacement for your TVs remote control.
