GetJar wins Best Mobile Service award

Rating: GetJar is second largest app store next to Apple

GetJar has been named as the winner of the Mobile Excellence Award for Best Mobile Service. Previously GetJar was the recipient of the 2009 Meffy Award for Best Direct to Customer Service.

GetJar was selected for its premium advertising system – Pay-Per-Download (PPD) which allows developers and brand owners to bid for premium visibility and drive downloads for their apps on the GetJar mobile app store.

Additionally, GetJar is closing in on the billion download mark, making it the second largest app store in the world behind the Apple iTunes store. GetJar has had nearly 750 million downloads so far.

GetJar CEO, Ilja Laurs, commented,”It’s a tremendous honour to be recognised as a leading mobile app store and we share the credit with our developers and partners.

We’ve always believed in giving content owners and developers large and small the necessary tools to stand out in the marketplace and we’re glad that the top industry leaders agree.”

PPD enables developers and content owners to geo-target their campaign by region and by handset and to allocate a daily budget for promoting a particular app or mobile site.

Since developers and brand owners only pay when they get downloads, they are able to generate new users at a fraction of the cost of traditional Cost Per Click (CPC) or Cost Per Impression (CPM) campaigns, Getjar claims.

The company provides more than 55,000 mobile applications across all major handsets and platforms to consumers in more than 200 countries.
