The American mobile media company go2 has announced the newest addition to its go2 Mobile Content Network, go2 Winter Sports.
go2 Winter Sports is free of charge for most web-enabled mobile phone in the US and is claimed to be the world’s first GPS-like, location-enabled mobile web site dedicated to providing winter sports enthusiasts and holiday makers with information on weather, snow and ski conditions, lodging, dining, entertainment and travel services for more than 500 ski destinations and resorts in the US.
As with all of the more than 150 mobile web sites in the go2 Mobile Content Network, go2 Winter Sports contains local search features and relevant information with fun mobile content, including ski and snowboarding photos.
According to M:Metrics, a mobile market analyst firm, go2 is one of the top five most visited mobile search sites in the US, along with AOL, Google, MSN and Yahoo! Every month mobile users access go2’s Mobile Content Network more than two million times and view more than 20 million page views of go2’s local information over their web-enabled phones. In late 2006, go2’s Mobile Content Network had delivered more than one billion mobile page views of local search and content information.
Interesting that a specialist mobile content provider is holding its own against the search mega-brands. Last year around 50% of all mobiles sold in the US had GPS embedded, this year it is expected to rise to 60%. This will be more power to the elbow of all location-based service suppliers, reducing their reliance on operators for triangulated location information and giving the sector a fillip.
