Golden Gekko launch Geo-me, their new location-based messaging service

Rating: Another geo-tagging service arises:
Golden Gekko, the cross-platform mobile phone app developer, launched their new product today. What is it?

I’m glad you asked.

It’s a geo-tagger, a type of mobile phone social network that allows users to place a “post-it” note on an on-line map. These post-its can be checked and read by friends, other users and, crucially, advertisers. Advertisers will be able to place ads on Geo-me’s search functions with location-based targeting.
What we think?
I’ve only been in this job two days, but already I’ve encountered four other sites who offer roughly the same service. Flagr, Gatsb, Placestodo and Socialight all have a slightly different focus, but the essentials remain the same. Users tag locations on a digital map.
Golden Gekko has two things that make it different. First, its presentation is the smoothest of all the above sites. Second, their focus is firmly on advertisers, which may prove to be the deciding factor in whether they succeed or not.
Also, when I tried to sign up in order to test the service, I received a terse “Site in maintanence. Please try again later” message. Not a good sign on launch day.
