GoldSpot API looks to place mobile video advertising on any device

Posted by Cian on May 19, 2009 17:50

GoldSpot Media announced the release of it’s new mobile advertising service today. It doesn’t have the friendliest name ever, but miAPI(R) is an API set for developers who want to insert interactive adsinto their apps on iPhone, J2ME, BREW, Android, Symbian S60, RIM and Windows Mobile 6+

GoldSpot specialises in mobile video advertisingthat incorporates click-to-action. The miAPI(R) client SDK focuses on making sure that anyone who wants to include a video like that doesn’t need to worry about different handsets, screensizes, operating sizes or image quality. The APIs should take care of all of that.

The GoldSpot platform, once it’s integrated, serves targeted video ads to users.

From the release:

“GoldSpot’s miAPI(R) product serves any mobile campaign — linear, in-stream, in-app, transition, app-startup or interactive, across multiple applications and devices,” said Srini Dharmaji, Founder and CEO. “miAPI(R) also provides inventory owners with the option to import online campaigns and enhance them with mobile specific interactive capabilities to achieve the best of online and mobile worlds - unified ad sales and trafficking processes, and increased mobile ad revenues through reuse of online ad assets for new mobile opportunities.”

What we think?

CIAN:GoldSpot claims that with this SDK it can serve interactive ads on pretty much any device, be it a mobile phone, MID or desktop machine. More and more advertisers (and, indeed, advertising enablers) are heading towards this “digital advertising” idea - whereby advertisers can easily place inventory across the on-line and mobile web with one payment. The problem is doing this smoothly. Advertising on mobile and on computer are notoriously different disciplines.

BENA:I took a look at this PR following the comment below and then spent about an hour looking over the site. Indeed the SDK is only for mobile - apologies!

This is just for mobile and the most important thing about it by far is the fact that the open SDK will serve developers by enabling them to master the way in which the advert is served.  Not only will it enable targeting but what I find most valuable is that it will allow developers to better serve inventory and impressions.

Advertising can be doomed with a lack of inventory where the same ad is served constantly forcing users to simply ignore them. With access to the SDK a developer will be able to maximise the RIGHT impressions - not just the same ones.

Cian - GoldSpot API is only for mobile devices and not for PC. What the API supports is import of campaigns from inventory owners’ existing online ad sales and trafficking system and enhancing it for mobile.

Thanks for the update. innerActive has released its SDK for developer, allowing the publisher to control and place the ads within the application in a non-intrusive way. We’re welcoming GoldSpot to the party :-)

    Good luck!

Thanks Bena. Appreciate the clarification. In addition to inventory aggregation, one of the hardest things to achieve on mobile is to present a single interactive ad creative interface to advertisers, while rendering these ad units on multiple devices with dissimilar aspect rations and operating systems. I believe the industry has started seeing the value in the product.
