GoldSpot Media Mobile Advertising company secures USD 3 million Series A funding
Rating: well shiver my GoldSpot
I am sure that GoldSpot is a breath freshner (not that I have ever needed one, of course!)
But GoldSpot Media is also a mobile ad insertion start-up focusing on TV adverts. It has closed USD 3 million in Series A funding from EXa Ventures.
From the press release
“This funding allows us to execute on the company vision to make mobile broadcast a profitable business case for the entire value-chain,” said Srini Dharmaji, GoldSpot Media’s president and CEO. “GoldSpot Media is uniquely positioned to influence the future of mobile broadcast TV by offering the potential for an entirely new advertising revenue model.”
“The need for a sustainable and ultimately profitable mobile TV and video advertising solution, one that works to the benefit of all the players in the mobile ecosystem, is critical for mainstream acceptance,” said Tommy Eng, Partner, Exa Ventures. “We believe that GoldSpot Media’s unique solution has the potential to fill this need and dramatically change the way advertisers interact with their key market segments.”
What we think?
Mobile TV and video ad-insertion is the business. Mobile TV is going to finally come of age and this new solution supports the teaser or very short “snacking” TV spots.
Any ad insertion into a video needs to be short. Watching a ten second ad before a ten second video is unacceptable. Parent company of GoMo News BKI Media believes that an advert should be 10% (length) of the time of the actual video or TV clip.

Bena,
Teaser to refresh your memory: GoldSpot was an orange soft drink in India some time ago (beore the Cola giants took over).
Hopefully, GoldSpot Media will be the company that will enable mass market adoption of DVB-H and MediaFLO like broadcast technologies. As you are aware of, we have solved the hard problem of monetizing adverts for all inventory owners in mobile broadcast. We are confident that GoldSpot would take leadership in this space, as mobile TV today resembles cable TV advertising log-jam of the late 70’s in the US.
Looking forward to working with you during this fun ride.
Cheers–
