Rating: Latest technology obviously too complicated for old hands
In order to help attendees get the most out of their visit to the Mobile World Congress 2013 Barcelona, the organisers (GSMA) have launched the My MWC portal. In the good old days there was an associated mobile app simply called My MWC. Oh no, not any more. That system was obviously far too easy. Effectively what you have to do if you registered way in advance is to sign back in again and ask to be connected to My MWC. Here at GoMobile Towers we have been tearing our hair out trying to sort this out so we thought we had better share our experiences.
First of all you need to sign onto the My MWC portal here.
Once you have signed in the, and only then will it work when you try to download the app relevant for your particular type of smartphone.
In our case we decided to download the Android version which you can get from Google Play here.
If you look closely, you’ll see that the app is actually entitled GSMA Official – not My MWC as we expected.
Worse still, after downloading this app there are two options. For My MWC pick the second menu option.
Now you should be able to see a menu option which says ‘Networking’.
This is where you finally have to log in with the details supplied to you by the GSMA.
Here’s a clue: – one will probably be your email address and the other is an official number the GSMA has provided when it accepted your registration.
Given that our password had zeros and capital ‘Os’ in it, you are going to have lots of fun.
Once you succeed you can: -
- Network with other attendees by exchanging messages and arranging meetings
- Find the attendees you need to meet while in Barcelona with our matchmaking tool
- Build your agenda and plan your event schedule
- Browse exhibitors, mark them as favourites, and find them on the maps
- Navigate the new venue with maps and exhibition floor plans
The best bit is that you can organize your Mobile World Congress experience from a desktop and then have all the information instantly sync with the Mobile World Congress mobile app.
