GoMo News aids the Pocket-link annual ‘Gadget Awards’

Rating: Luckily GoMo appears to have voted with the majority

And so to London’s Wild East End (Shoreditch) to see who’d won top honours at the annual Pocket-lint Gadget awards which are sponsored by Vodafone. In a nutshell the winners were HTC with the Hero; along with 3UK. Which is pretty good going considering 3 UK wasn’t an entrant.

GoMo News’ participation in the evening’s events were influenced by the act of having taken part as a ‘dark’ or ‘oppo[sition]‘ judge on the best handset front. This practice is designed t0 give credibilty to the claim that the wards are truly independent. Luckily GoMo appears to have voted with the majority.

One of the categories for the awards was ‘best mobile phone’ for which GoMo News was admirably equipped to judge. Fortunately GoMo appears to have voted with the majority because out of all the nominated handsets, the winner – the HTC Hero – had gained our vote.

It beat off tough competition from the likes of the Apple iPhone 3GS; the Palm Pre and the RIM Blackberry Bold 9700. Significantly, talking with Pocket-lint supremo, Stuart Miles, Go Mo discovered that while the awards are now in their sixth year, the iPhone has still never won the award although the public vote strongly for it.

Miles revealed that out of all the categories, this sector (handsets) attracts by far the largest share of reader votes. Asked to estimate just how far mobile handsets are ahead of their rivals, Stuart Miles ventured that it was around 30 per cent.

In the category for best software, service or app, it was nice to see that Spotify music player for the PC took top prize. It defeated a challenge from Windows 7 (not difficult to do) as well as Dropbox.

So which product was the overall winner, taking the title of Product of the Year 2009? The answer was Spotify which beat the HTC Hero by a very narrow margin indeed.

All of this is extremely good news for 3 UK which recently announced a deal with Spotify so it can offer the software as part of a bundle with an HTC Hero. Check this out here.

Which is how you end up being a winner without actually having been entered in the competition.
