Google buys Jaiku
Rating: I really Jaiku

Somewhere in Mountain View California there is a massive warehouse full of Google acquisitions from over the years. Some of the older ones like Kaltix lie abused on some dusty shelf with their innards ripped out , drained to the last drop of intellectual property. Others like YouTube hold regular court, surrounded by bright young things keen to hear the stories from the latest star of the Internet. A new entrance into this hallowed stable is Finnish micro-blogging company Jaiku, bought by Google today for an undisclosed sum.
Speculation is rife as to why Google bought the company, but most are convinced that they are interested in Jaiku’s advanced presence function which tells other users when a Jaiku user is online and more importantly can triangulate where they are. Now not only will Google be able to tell when a mobile user is online, but what they are searching for and where they are. Very valuable for a whole bunch of applications, not least personalised ad serving.
