GyPSii Social Networking Goes Mobile in China on Ramar Phones

by: Bena Roberts Friday, August 1st, 2008

GeoSolutions BV Business Unit (GyPSii) has announced an agreement with Chinese mobile handset company Ramar International Co. Ltd.

RAMAR?
I know I didn’t know the company either. But they are Windows Mobile devices under a new brand “amsam”.

The devices will be pre-loaded with GyPSii geo social networking and mapping.

Business model?
It sounds as though this is a revenue share agremetn for social networking and advertising plus license fees.

From the press release

“GyPSii makes full use of both the camera and GPS functions of our devices and is the only application to provide a completely integrated set of lifestyle features for customers to use and enjoy,” says Shelley He, VP of Business Development & Sales, at Ramar.  “With this deal, Ramar can bring these features to market faster and become the first handset company in China to deliver these features within a single user experience.  I am sure GyPSii will become a key feature in future Ramar products across the globe.”

Commenting on the deal Dan Harple, CEO at GyPSii said, “This relationship demonstrates our commitment to an embedded device strategy, as the most effective way to drive the uptake of social networking via the mobile phone.  Our partnership with Ramar gives us another significant inroad into the lucrative market for mobile location services in the world’s largest mobile market.  We’re very confident that this will create new opportunities to build the GyPSii brand both in China and on the global stage.”

What we think?
So, I have always liked GyPSii – although I tend not to use it personally. I am not sure why this is. Perhaps I am not the right kind of trendy young person the service is tailored for. Or I just don’t have the time? But, I might just give it another go.
