We’ve already covered this mornings launch of Ovi, Nokia‘s mobile content service. After the soft launch yesterday, everybody saw pics of how the service looks on an N97 or other high end Nokia device. But these pics were from the Ovi application as it ran on a nice device – I wondered how it would look on an older model. So I pulled out a reliable old N73 and pointed it at store.ovi.com
First off, here’s what it looks like on the N97:
Mmmmm, polished. It’s not quite as nice on the old N73:
Referring to Ovi as a “monolithic milestone”, Nokia has declared that you can download great content by visiting the Ovi site. Which hasn’t been quite my experience. There wasn’t ANY content.

And so on for audio & video, games and other categories. Worried that I had made some mistake, I headed over to the Ovi on-line store to check what was available. What did I find?
Let’s revisit the official statement from the Nokia blog for a moment: Tero Ojanperä, Executive Vice President, Nokia Services, said “Ovi Store is open for business and we’ve stocked the shelves with both local and global content for a broad range of Nokia devices. Ovi Store makes shopping for content and applications easy and fun for feature phone and smartphone owners alike.”
Really? So is there no content available for my phone because I’m in Ireland or because it’s a feature phone? Because even according to the Ovi Store on-line website, there’s no content to download for an N73. Maybe this content is yet to come. Maybe this wouldn’t be a problem, but Tero Ojanperä specifically mentions feature phones. If you’re going to brag about ease of use for lower-end devices on launch, at least have something for them to use. The N73 may be a little old at this stage, but it’s well capable of browsing the mobile Web, downloading content and running Nokia-approved apps.

I am surprised that I have not found more content on this post.
Quite simply, in my experience, Nokia Ovi is tempremental, if it works at all. I have been trying to use a Nokia N97 since its introduction in July 2009. Trying to connect it to Ovi Suite on the PC is quite frankly infuriating. Still not succeeded, even though I have tried with XP, Vista and 7.
More recently I tried to purchase and install an application. What a damn stupid idea. I ask you, fancy trying to purchase, download, and install an application to an N97 (Nokia’s Flagship phone).
Do yourself a favour…
