Huawei announces its first Android phone
Chinese cell phone manufacturer Huawei has announced it will be launching an Android-based smartphone at the Mobile World Congress.
Huawai has said it will be demonstrating a “smart mobile phone based on the ‘Android’ platform and first mobile phone based on ‘one’ single UMTS chipset” at the MWC. While no other details were released, Huawei said this was only of several “Innovative Mobile Terminals” it plans on displaying.
What we think?
There’s a lot of suggestions that this smartphone release has only happened because of the recent 3G contracts awarded in China. Huawei announced its plans for the smartphone marker back in November, and also claimed it would release some Symbian handsets. Obviously it expects the smartphone market in China to rocket in 2009.
