Huge mobile TV showcase from Qualcomm and Abertis Telecom

Qualcomm and Abertis Telecom will bring a huge MediaFLO mobile TV demonstration to Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. MediaFLO network will broadcast at MWC and throughout Barcelona. The showcase will have over 30 mobile TV channels, a wide variety of apps and services, and new devices for mobile TV.

Services and apps will include IP datacasting, Clipcasting media and social services. Interactive services will include voting, chatting and m-commerce, along with updating social networking sites while watching mobile TV shows.

Devices will include handsets, mobile TV receivers and MediaFLO accessories that allow Wi-Fi smartphones to get live TV from the MediaFLO platform.

What we think?

This is a really big effort from Qualcomm and Abertis. It seems like whether or not the public is ready for it, operators are determined to push mobile TV to the top in 2009. I wonder if this slew of new apps and devices is anything to do with Qualcomms recent AMD acquisition?
