IBM has revealed an extremely interesting product at National Retail Federation Convention. Focused on interior design and furniture shopping, the service allows users to move furniture around and test room layouts in a virtual setting, all on their mobile device.
The idea is that shoppers in different locations can share the same virtual room through their mobiles. They can share their designs, check out various items and test the look of the room with a 3D viewer. It even allows price checks. IBM claims this will help combat buyer’s remorse.
There are precious few details available for the service at the moment. The amount of system resources this would take seems like an immediate problem. This kind of service will only really work if it runs smooth as butter. I’ll be keeping an eye for more details on this. It’s extremely niche, but it could be a great service that really takes advantage of smartphones.
