Ilovemobileweb vs supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
The dotMobi Advisory Group (MAG) and Bango today announced the successful “ilovemobileweb” (http://www.ilovemobileweb.com) global awareness campaign launched in October 2007 will now be managed, operated and supported by the MAG.
With the joint announcement, 25 global ilovemobileweb charter members including Bango, the Mobile Marketing Association, the dotMobi company and Winksite are joined by over 100 MAG members to promote the mobile web as a great place to do business with a common goal of raising awareness of mobile web benefits to consumers around the world. Joining the ilovemobileweb campaign is free; with sponsorship for events, gatherings, publications, memorabilia and outreach programs available to all interested parties.
ilovemobileweb supporters campaign to:
- Raise awareness of the mobile web with consumers around the world
- Encourage open access to the mobile web for every user
- Provide consumers with choice of content and services
- Provide easy pathways for fixed Internet publishers to move to mobile
- More standardization of devices and development platforms
What we think?
Well I’ll be. Over 100 members and I had never heard of this initiative despite being heavily involved in news on the mobile web. So perhaps its best someone else is managing it!
But seriously, what is this? I looked at the website and it looks like an SEO tactic to get links in and from brand name sites. There is nothing there apart from a bit of solidarity.
There doesn’t seem to be any substance. If it’s just too early and it is getting off the ground that is one thing– but if companies are serious about the mobile web we need guidance.
1. A price guidance so data rates can’t rip people off
2. A transcoding guideline (see the email fight on MoMo London today)
3. Better understanding of online vs mobile and the two entities of mobile.
Hmm. Me thinks perhaps GoMo News should join this initiative.
