InfoGin content adapts itself into Vodafone via MobilKom Austria partnership
Rating: Novarra vs InfoGin part 3
I remember when I interviewed the CEO’s of Novarra and InfoGin at 3GSM to let them know I was writing the first ever Novarra vs InfoGin comparison. Both of them were aware of each other but didn’t really want to go head to head.
But this latest news is a coup.
We all know the issues Vodafone has had with Novarra and these seem to go on see: http://www.vodafonebetavine.net/web/guest/forums/message_boards/message/478
But now InfoGin is the new default webpage adapter on Vodafone live! – but in Austria. Vodafone has a network agreement with Vodafone and I think still has a stake in the company (perhaps 25%… but please check this as I know Vodafone sold off some of its stakes in smaller subsidiaries recently – Swisscom)
So anyway. I thought that the Vodafone and Novarra move was global – but apparently not. InfoGin has announced a successful launch with MobilKom Austria for the IMP (Intelligent Mobile Platform) on Vodafone live!
From the press release
“With the A1 Internet Browser, mobilkom austria for the first time allows all A1 customers to surf the Internet with just about any mobile phone. Thanks to this innovation, offered only by A1, all customers can access their favorite sites directly on their WAP-capable mobile phone with a single click,” says Dr. Hannes Ametsreiter, Director of Marketing, Distribution and Customer Services, mobilkom austria and Marketing Director, Customer Services, Telekom Austria TA AG.
Eran Wyler, CEO and Founder of InfoGin commented: “The ability to give mobilkom austria’s subscribers the freedom to choose the Internet content and services they’re familiar with while being on the move - powered by InfoGin’s platform – gives a new meaning to the concept of mobile Internet and ignites the imagination for the tremendous new opportunities that lie ahead.”
What we think?
This is brilliant news for InfoGin. The vendor has already signed up AOL and InfoSpace and an operator addition is fantastic. As I wrote at great length about in Novarra vs InfoGin: the battle between the two companies is a “replicating the Internet” experience vs a “made for mobile”. InfoGin’s is very much made for mobile.
I often bump into Eran Wyler CEO of InfoGin and I met him again at Mobile Web 2.0 in London last week. Eran is a lovely guy who always has some lovely Israeli chocolate in his bag for me and the InfoGin product is ideal for mobile services and in particular for mobile search.
Because I am about to get a taxi to the airport - more in the Mobile Search Analyst
