Insqribe plays catch-up with new mobile barcode platform

qrAustralian company Insqribe has released a new version of the 2d barcode management platform it launched last October. The original platform was aimed at the easy creation and management of QR Code campaigns, but the new release is far more targeted at larger enterprises marketers and brands.

What’s new?

There are three main new additions to the Insqribe platform. First is Insqribe Tickets – this is a paperless ticketing system. According to Insqribe, this function is powerful enough to be able to provide mobile tickets for a wide scale of events, from small gigs all the way up to airlines. Second is Insqribe Retail. This is a completely brand-focused service. It will be an in-store barcode placement, aimed at funneling consumers towards a particular brands products. Third is Insqribe Publishing – this is a pure marketing tool. The publishing branch will be aimed at not just printing barcodes on magazines or billboards for your campaign, but also analysing the results and managing the campaign.

From the release:

Nick Gonios, Insqribe Commercial Director: ‘The major issue within the 2D barcode arena is a lack of focus across the industry on demand generation. In our view, democratizing the service is the first step. So, for the cost of an average monthly mobile plan of $49.95 per month, we have provided our standard service to more organisations as a way to gain value from 2D barcodes and achieve measurable outcomes.’ The new Insqribe is a bigger, smarter and much more powerful Campaign Management and Analytics Platform with real time mapping integration, access to mobile carrier agnostic user behaviours and a simple desktop application designed for quick on the go desktop publishers.

What we think?

I certainly agree with Nick Gonios that a “lack of focus” exists across the mobile barcode industry. But democratizing the service really isn’t the solution, especially if by “democratizing” what you really mean is “cramming another service in there”.

Standardisation is what mobile barcodes really need, but that’s not what is on offer from Insqribe. I’ve got to say, on paper this looks like a fine service – but there’s nothing new here.

At the end of the day, I’m sure Insqribe will be able to provide with you whatever you need for your mobile barcodes, but there’s nothing that you can’t already get from a lot of other mobile barcode companies.
