Australian innovators MPoll have launched a beta site, showcasing their new mobile survey tool that allows customers to create instant polls online and deliver them via SMS. The service is available to trial now for Beta customers (register here for the Beta) and MPoll are offering vouchers to local media & marketing professionals who want to check it out for free.
Once an MPoll has been created, it is delivered as a text message, containing a short introduction to the poll and a unique link through which any web enabled mobile phone can click to respond to a brief survey on a mobile site.
Using the MPoll web interface you can customise the design, colours, logo and questions that your customers receive, as well as the copy of the text message and messages at the start and end of the survey. Credits can be purchased instantly using PayPal, at a cost of $20 for 100 messages. It’s easy to distribute the survey to one or more mobile numbers, by entering them manually or uploading a CSV file. There’s also a web based API for seamless integration with CRM systems.
The MPoll folks are aware of the value of instant gratification, and want you to preview the service by requesting a sample mPoll to be sent to your phone.
MPoll have trialled their system at recent mobile & digital events and have achieved great response rates. In a recent pilot following a professional networking event, an MPoll-distributed survey achieved more than a 30% response rate – within 1 hour!

I set up a sample survey and was impressed with the simplicity and intuitiveness of the interface as well as the genuine real time results MPoll delivered. I sent the survey to myself and completed it on my phone while watching the results update LIVE on the web reporting interface. There’s nothing groundbreaking in the development of MPoll, except for the fact that it is fast, easy & it works – which I suppose in itself is groundbreaking!
I see real potential to use this tool in its current from at events & conferences, where feedback can be requested and measured on the fly. It would also be a quick and easy way for mobile sites & services to survey customers on usage & product development or run competitions & reward programmes.
The MPoll service is in early days, but the team wanted to get a BETA version out and receive feedback from local marketing & mobile professionals. They’re keen to talk about ideas that use MPoll to complement existing customer service and contact processes, and looking for partnership opportunities with mobile operators, digital marketing teams, event organizers and applications developers.
