Interactive 3D specialist EON chooses Marmalade to take 3D to mobile

Rating: Win-win situation for both parties

Focussing on your core strengths really is the name of the game. That’s why EON Reality -which provides the software tools for creating interactive, 3D rich media (especially games) has decided to hook up with mobile specialist, Marmalade. Mobile games developers need to bring 3D to their mobile apps and 3D specialists, EON, has found a simple and comprehensive way of breaking into the mobile app market. As EON Reality says, by co-operating with Marmalade, it can focus on creating rich 3D mobile applications for their clients, without worrying about cross-platform complexities and future device compatibility.** What Marmalade has effectively done is to strike a licensing deal with EON Reality so that customers can use its SDK [Software Development Kit] to bring 3D to tablets and other mobile devices using iOS, and Android plus other unnamed future mobile OS implementations.

As Tim Closs, Marmalade’s CTO, explained “We’re excited that EON Reality has decided to take its cross-platform strategy to the next level with Marmalade.”

He added, “EON Reality has long been a market leader in interactive 3D development, and has played a pivotal role in imbuing 3D technology with practical, real-world applications.

We look forward to helping extend and deepen the role of interactive 3D across mobile platforms.”

Just as excited by the prospects of working together, EON Development Lab’s Nils Andersson, commented, “After 15 years in the 3D business using desktop tools, it was finally time for us to take the step to cross-platform.

Marmalade allows us to continue using familiar desktop tools such as Visual Studio.”

He continued, “At the same time it makes it easy to develop for several platforms including iOS and Android. Our core code works without modification, allowing us to focus development time on platform-specific optimisations. ”

In a nutshell, Marmalade enables developers to compile a single codebase to native CPU instructions, then deploy apps easily to all iOS, Android, and BlackBerry 10 devices, in addition to other platforms such as selected smart TV platforms.

Whilst Marmalade has a client base of many Number One games on the Apple iTunes App Store, EON’s list of clients include so many big brands it’s hard to figure which ones to single out.

How about Boeing, Intel, Lexus, Lufthansa –Teknik, Lowell Manufacturing, Samsung, Siemens Medical, Suzuki, Toyota and Whirlpool?

Yup, this should prove to be a very beneficial alliance for both parties. GoMobile News is intrigued by Marmalade’s hint that it is just about to add support for other OS offerings. Will it go for bada or Windows Phone, we wonder?

One Response to Interactive 3D specialist EON chooses Marmalade to take 3D to mobile

  1. The paragraph above – “What Marmalade has effectively done…” is slightly misleading.

Your readers should find this to be less confused and more accurate …

“What EON Reality has effectively done is to strike a licensing deal with Marmalade so that they are able to use its SDK [Software Development Kit] to bring their 3D tools to tablets and other mobile devices using iOS, and Android plus other unnamed future mobile OS implementations.”
