madvertise, a European based mobile ad network, has teamed up with AppZapp, to give a comprehensive look at the most interesting facts and figures from Apple’s UK App Store in 2011.
Some of the key findings from their research:
- A total of 255,922 apps were launched on the UK App Store in 2011
- On average, 21,326 apps were launched each month
- As expected, the run up to Christmas was popular – 28,992 apps were launched in December, the most for any month in 2011.
- Out of the total apps launched, 67% were for the iPad and 33% for the iPad

Lifestyle – growth rate of +106%
Education – growth rate of +99%
Games – growth rate of +94%
Entertainment – growth rate of +78%
Books – growth rate of +34%
iPad:
Education – growth rate of +205%
Lifestyle – growth rate of +195%
Games – growth rate of +192%
Entertainment – growth rate of +154%
Books – growth rate of +95%
