Iota Sphere new on device portal to launch at 3GSM
Rating: Sex “on device portal” legs
Granted that I haven’t been a huge fan of on device portals, it was a pleasure to meet a new company Iota Sphere with a strong case for on device portals (ODP). This issues I have with ODP stem from users not understanding what an ODP is, or how it works.
Consumers download ODP’s and then shriek in horror when out of the blue GPRS turns on and updates are pushed to the service. Users get confused for what they are paying for and when they have to pay and price fears mute the overall growth of ODP services.
In general, when an operator has launched an ODP the first month of business is usually great. But gradually uptake drops as consumers start getting bills for data charges or simply forget where the application is stored and how to find it.
Enter Iota Sphere….
with hot new patented technology.
In short, Iota Sphere is a simple ODP that is very easy to use, extremely affordable and transparent. Once downloaded users can find content and purchase or receive free or sponsored updates at the click of a button. Using a very simple style ODP model, information is sent, received and stored in the same way that users receive and send SMS.
This is great as there are no outrageous additional charges and pricing can be free or transparent. The portal can be operator owned or sponsored. Charging can be free, per event or subscription. Its quick simple and easy.
It’s a sort of WAP without the WAPPING ODP… and one of the only ODP’s that actually walk the walk and talk the talk. Because the meaning of ODP should be simple and this new service is.
