Is MVNO a dirty word? Pat McCarthy VP Telcordia
When I met Pat McCarthy VP Global Marketing Telcordia Service Delivery Solutions, I expected a chat about MVNO services.
But Pat was very quick to tell me that MVNO services was only a sideline and Telcordia could provide a number of mobile service delivery solutions including advertising and marketing.
But I persisted on the line of the MVNO and I hope I didn’t frustrate Pat too much. With MVNO’s failing regularly and as a huge fan of innovate MVNO’s I wanted the low down.
Why?
Well, Kajeet, Virgin, BASE – three of the most innovative set ups of MVNO’s come from Telcordia. On top of that Telcordia boasts 12 deployments in the US. The fact that the MVNO fails, is not Telcordia’s fault – it’s the fault of poor marketing, advertising, planning, high interconnection rates or simply by entering the market too early.
Telecordia has a hot solution for MVNO’s. But Pat pressed on that MVNO’s was just a small part. I felt that he wanted to make sure that all Telcordia’s services were in the public eye – so not to be faced in the brunt of any MVNO backlash.
So, it was quite a funny briefing with me talking about Kajeet and BASE and him raving about the new advertising platform. But it didn’t matter, I liked Pat and I have to say; if I was Telcordia I would be proud that I was responsible for the billing innovation behind the likes of Sugar Mama and BASE. But, in a while (when my fractured finger is better) I will come back and write up more about the new services.
I just read on moconews that Sonopia has died… it is a shame. I also never managed to get the MVNO GoPolski off the ground in the UK three years ago.
