Is T-Mobile plan to launch two non mobile Android devices the start of a larger family?

All right, this is my last Google/Android story for today. Rumours abound that T-Mobile is going to be launching two new Android devices this year, to compliment the G1. The twist is that neither of them are mobile devices – one is a house phone, and the other a tablet computer.

According to the NYT, the tablet will be a 7-inch touch screen device that can check weather and manage other household devices. The house phone will plug into a docking station, and come with a device that handles data synchronization. Presumably that means your house phone can be kept in sync with the tablet device, and updated with contact information and other on-line info that might come in handy for a house phone.

What we think?

It’s funny just how much attention Android gathers even when there’s only one device that runs it. That being the case, things are going to get crazy for Android this year. Samsung has just announced three devices. HTC has announced a portfolio of other devices to accompany the G1. Motorola and Sony Ericsson have both declared that they are working on hardware that runs with Android. And here we have two new devices that aren’t even mobile handsets. The tablet device brings Android one step closer to being a full computer. Android may not just be bringing the competition to iPhone, Windows Mobile and Symbian, but also looking to step beyond mobile.

I’m curious as to where T-Mobile is going with this. They’ve just announced a house-hold device running on Android… and another device that can manage multiple household devices. Are we going to see a larger family of T-Mobile household Android devices coming down the line?
