Italian operator strikes MVNO deal(s)

Italy’s third largest operator, Wind, has signed a wholesale agreement with the French retail chain Auchan which is to launch an MVNO in Italy in the first half of next year. The Auchan brand is already known in Italy as it operates 45 hypermarkets there.

Wind is also thought to be close to signing another MVNO deal with the national motorway toll firm Autostrade.

Interesting that so very many MVNOs flourish in Europe when so very many flounder in the US. Will the vaunted opening up of Verizon’s network (see blog below) improve the chances of any wanna-be MVNOs in the US?
