Historic whiskey Jack Daniel’s is currently trying to make the birthday of its founder into a national holiday. As part of the drive, it is launching a mobile barcode campaign, in a deal with brand barcode advertising experts JAGTAG.
What’s the deal?
The “Back Jack” mobile campaign being created by JAGTAG is part of a larger campaign to the U.S. Congress in Washington. The purpose, overall, is to drive petitions from members of the public to make Jack Daniel’s birthday into a national holiday. It’s not as bizarre a request as it might seem – Jack Daniel’s is the oldest registered distillery in the USA, and is the National Registry of Historic Places. That’s not enough on it’s own to gain such an accolade for the founder… but a few million signatures from members of the public might do it.
Wherever a member of the public snaps a Jack Daniel’s branded JAGTAG, they will be able to download campaign updates and content, as well as add their signatures to the petition. The barcodes will be printed on posters inside liquor stores across the country, as well as featuring prominently on the “Back Jack” tour bus that will be visiting American cities. It will be printed on campaign banners, as well as on pins that will be handed out from the bus.
What we think?
Another day, another JAGTAG campaign. These guys have been signing brand advertisers at a bewildering rate. Some of those campaigns have been a little underwhelming, as brands only use the codes to redirect mobile owners to mobile websites – yawn. But Jack Daniel’s has been smart about this. Not only will these codes inform users about the Back Jack campaign and spread awareness, they also have a definite affect as they add the users digital signature to the petition. The only requirement is that you have to be 21 or older to sign!
