Jamba’s Lee Fenton ousted in putsch?
Rating: Symptom of tensions in mobile content industry
Rumours are rife that Lee Fenton - credited by some as the driving force behind Vodafone Live! - has been ousted from his role at Jamster, Berlin.
Jamba/Jamster are, of course, the guys that gave us the Crazy Frog and whose subscription policies tarred the content industry at the time.
Fenton, who is officially md and COO with Jamba, briefly acted as CEO when Lucy Hood resigned. The job of CEO, however, was filled by Mauro Montanaro who formerly been with Nokia in South East Asia.
When I contacted Jamster in the UK, a spokesman was unable to give me any information on the subject.
The incident is typical of the tensions growing in the mobile content industry as a whole. Jamba was acquired by Fox Mobile Entertainment which is in itself a joint venture between News Corporation and VeriSign.
There’s a very definite divergence between those who have embraced content through Holywood and those in the mobile industry who have experienced what sells well in mature mobile markets such as Europe and Asia.
I’ve just found out that Jamba has a new cartoon character called Snuggle Rabbit which is in danger of repeating the Crazy Frog’s success in the music charts. I’m taking to my bunker right now.
