Jetstar lets customers change flights through the mobile Internet

Budget airline Jetstar has created a “change flights” service that customers can access on mobile. The service, developed with Dublin-based specialist Mobile Travel Technologies, allows customers to change their fares over mobile devices.

The new function is available on all mobile devices.

In addition to the change flights facility, Jetstar Mobile allows customers to access live arrival and departure information, promotions, schedules and info about airports and destinations.

From the release:

“Jetstar’s new  mobile  site gives our customers  the added option and flexibility to change flexible fares and to access flight information quickly and easily via their mobile device, which customers are coming to rely on more and more for every day transactions,” said Mr David Koczkar, group general manager commercial for Jetstar.

What we think?

The travel industry really seems to be one of the main drivers behind mobile Internet use. Between services like this and uptake on mobile barcoding and ticketing, transportation services have really been taking advantage of the mobile web. Consumer hesitation to spend money on expensive air-travel is forcing airlines to cut costs. It’s extremely likely that mobile web services will be used to fill that gap. The money saved from paper ticketing alone is substantial enough to merit more investment.
