JumpTap wins group wide TeliaSonera search and advertising deal
In December at MEF and Mobility World Conference in Asia I watched a presentation from mobile operator TeliaSonera. It was all about its new search services and Surf Open with some lovely screen shots of what the service looked like.
I was overwhelmed. It looked great. In fact, it was so good; I came unstuck as to who could have provided it. I had heard a rumour in September that it was JumpTap, but this search experience was actually better than anything I had seen from JumpTap to date. In fact, I asked a competitor in the market who was also in the audience and even they said, “wow- was that from a white label”.
So, I did some probing in Asia and did some digging. Pretty soon, I realised that it was JumpTap and its clear that the vendor has upped its ability in both search and advertising.
For about one year now, I have felt that JumpTap has brushed aside search for advertising but this new open portal is an amazing improvement.
What struck me instantly was the very clean user interface and the seamless experience. The search box is at the very top of the page but unlike in some other search experiences where there is more than one box on a page – it doesn’t look cluttered.
I haven’t got permission to use the screen shots – but when/ if I do I will publish them.
But anyway:
JumpTap has signed a deal with TeliaSonera to deploy mobile search and advertising across seven mobile operators in Sweden, Spain, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Estonia and Lithuania.
JumpTap will be the exclusive partner for all mobile advertising and paid search. This is for both the SurfPort (operator managed) and SurfOpen (off-portal) services. An Internet toolbar will be launched during 2008.
Dan Olschwang, president and CEO at JumpTap, comments: “This is a monumental move for TeliaSonera and is testimony to the fact that the world’s most innovative and progressive operators are deploying integrated white label search and mobile advertising services.”
“SurfOpen is an important step into Mobile 2.0,” says Indra Åsander, Senior Vice President, Head of Content Services, Europe Mobility Services, at TeliaSonera. “SurfOpen will bring improved options to the market to communicate with our mobile customers in seven countries. Our partnership with JumpTap will help our customers quickly and easily access their favourite content and services wherever it exists on the mobile Internet.”
Olschwang concludes: “The full potential of the mobile marketing industry is only realised when subscribers are satisfied with their mobile web experience. By combining intelligence from search with operator gateway data, users get fast access to everything they are searching for in the most intuitive way possible. TeliaSonera understands the importance of openness and of simplifying the mobile web, which is why SurfOpen and JumpTap’s search and advertising solutions work together to provide a positive user experience.”
What we think?
After reading the press release, I think it is the Internet toolbar that I saw in Hong Kong. It was excellent. I heard from another white label that they are also working with toolbars and instead of a number of different mobile search boxes the toolbar is a simple alternative.
Rating: this rocks – I have seen it
