Mobicip.com announced today that the Mobicip Kid-Safe Browser is now available for parents to download from the iPhone App Store. The service is a “free” browser that protects children from inappropriate web content on the iPhone.
Parents can sign up on the site and choose between three levels of protection, based on the childs age.
Free is in paranthesis in the first paragraph because only the current app is free. Mobicip will soon be releasing a premium app with better configuration capabilities, and support for multiple platforms from a single subscription.
From the release:
“The iPhone represents a paradigm shift in terms of making the web accessible to young children, anytime and anywhere,” said Suren Ramasubbu, Founder and CEO, Mobicip.com. “Mobicip offers a safety net for these children to have a safe and secure online experience on their favorite device. Mobicip’s filtering policy for each level is based on school recommended settings and the technology is based on proven safeguards used by school IT networks.”
What we think?
Child safety has been a pretty permanent feature of mobile discussions. I’ve lost count of the number of kids I’ve seen being distracted with the latest game on their parents iPhone. It’s so easy for kids to then log on and go wherever they want on the mobile web. I like the sales model as well – limited protection is free for a single device, but better options that cover multiple devices with one payment is a good incentive to buy.
