Rating: Don’t try put Sling back in the box.

By Tony Alton

Another homely fireside chat (still no bloody fire though) this time
featuring self-styled ‘placeshifting’ guru Blake Krikorian. (this
doesn’t mean he has invented a form of matter transport, but is the
attempted position the company is trying to take for the future).

Krikorian hinted at a new mobile functionality for Sling, which has yet
to be announced, that will allow users to cut out portions of their
streamed TV content and let them send these snippets of media to their
mates.  He used the example of someone watching a football game and
sending a short clip to their friends.

Additionally Krikorian also talked in some detail about the ‘long list’
of cable companies, network operators, content owners and others who
have accused him of trying to ruin their businesses. He said these
companies offered  bandwidth heavy services like Sling in a ‘gym
membership’ type arrangement –  hoping that people would sign up but
never use them.  He did however conclude that they were in fact coming
round to the idea of playing nice with content companies.  Why cant we
all just be friends?
