Rating: turn the binoculars round

South Korea’s LG Electronics has signed an agreement with YouTube, the world’s biggest video-sharing website, to develop a mobile phone optimised for YouTube freaks. LG Electronics said the proposed model will enable users to upload, view and share video clips or user-created content (UCC) online freely without using computers.

LG Electronics began selling third-generation (3G) handsets called “Google phones” with software installed for directly using the Google service, in Europe last month. The phone offers one-click access to Google’s search engine as well as Google maps and Gmail. Google acquired YouTube late last year for USD 1.65bn.

Perhaps to get the real point here you need to look from the other end of the binoculars, rather than the users’ point of view, and remember that 60 – 70% of the video clips that appear there are professionally produced. This is a great way of opening up a new distribution channel aka another revenue stream.
