LG to supply LTE mobile devices for operator NTT DoCoMo
South Korean mobile manufacturer LG announced today that Japanese mobile operator NTT DoCoMo has chosen it to provide 4G devices. From 2010, LG will create LTE (Long Term Evolution) devices for the telecom carrier.
DoCoMo plans to launch commercial LTE services next year, and LG will providing all of the 4G modem chips for the companies mobile devices. LG and NTT DoCoMo have been working together in the Japanese mobile market since mid-2006.
What we think?
We’ll be seeing an LTE network going live in Sweden soon as well - LTE has been “just around the corner” for so long now that it’s almost hard to believe we’re actually going to see it in commercial action finally. Of course, it’s been claimed that LTE will be able to zip a 700mg movie down in a single minute - which can’t exactly be great news for people who are worried about piracy.
