LocatioNet launches free mapping and navigation service for Brits
Rating: lost cause?

LocatioNet Systems has launched amAze, a free mobile mapping, navigation and local search service in the UK for anyone with a Java phones. Apparently amAze has been tailored to the UK market after the worldwide beta launch announced by LocatioNet in February.
Don’t know what it means about tailored to the UK. Perhaps it has a secret ingredient that means men will use it instead of spending hours lost because they refuse to stop and ask for directions?
In addition to directions and maps, amAze also offers voice-guided navigation that can be used through any external bluetooth GPS device or phones with a built-in GPS.
The plan is to make money from advertising, which, the company says, “is intelligently integrated into the application, such as location sensitive ads displayed to the user, based on their location. Companies can also sponsor the opening screen when the application is activated. The sponsorship branding can be replaced at any given time.”
amAze presents advertisements to consumers only when they are using the application and no attempt is made to address the user at any other time.
Great idea. Can see no reason why it shouldn’t be a huge success, apart from the fact that the upper and lower case combo (amAze) is annoying for bloggers to type.
