Loopt comes to BlackBerry

Under all the furore that Loopt is coming to the iPhone after it’s demonstration of their native application at WWDC there seems to have been an almost under the counter release of Loopt for BlackBerry.
They say: With Loopt, turn your BlackBerry® into a social compass. See where your friends are and what they’re doing without having to call or text. Connect on the fly, share photos and tips on cool places. If you want, share your information with Facebook. You can always change your privacy settings if you don’t want to be found.

Loopt for BlackBerry® is free to download and use, though a data plan is required and standard data and messaging charges from your carrier may apply. It also works across multiple carriers and devices so you can also share location with friends even if they don’t have a BlackBerry®.

Using location-based technologies, Loopt lets you know where your friends are by automatically updating maps on your mobile handset. Loopt even lets you send messages to nearby friends or receive automatic alerts when they’re nearby so that you never miss an opportunity to meet. Loopt also lets you journal your life so that your friends can see what you’re up to. With Loopt, mobile subscribers put themselves on the map.

Available free to current and prospective subscribers of four major U.S.-based wireless carriers - Alltel, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile. According to Loopt official support from Verizon itself is coming soon as well.

Loopt is backed by venture capital firms Sequoia Capital and New Enterprise Associates, the same firms that helped found Google, Yahoo!, PayPal and TiVo among many other technology innovators.

We Say: I would to try this but alas US only, does anyone know of a UK equivalant that I can use my BB on? It’s a sat and I cant think!!!
