A few weeks ago MCN-inc won a round of VC funding and touted that it wanted to be as big as other white label mobile players such as Medio or JumpTap. We were not sure, but two new developments at this years 3GSM prove MCN-inc is serious. The US based mobile search player is prominent as its key deployments are outside of the US and its cracked the Asian market. Not only that, it has two deployments with operators in Europe – where bigger white label providers are struggling.

Now at 3GSM, MCN-INC has been chosen to be the mobile search brand behind the 3GSM.mobi initiative. Not only that, it has also recently signed a mobile search deal with DTAC (www.dtac.co.th) in Thailand.
This adds to existing partnerships with DNA in Finland (www.dnafinland.fi), Telia Sonera (www.teliasonera.com) and NTT DoCoMo (www.nttdocomo.com).

MCN-inc’s strength is in its flexibility and ability to integrate. There are several white label search deployments on NTT DoCoMo’s network in Asia and MCN-inc can leverage easily still integrate. For it doesn’t index itself – but uses federated mobile search to content and package existing mobile content indexes.

DTAC in Thailand has twelve million subscribers and the winning the mobile search platform deal is huge for MCN.

From the press release:
“We are focused on how to fulfill our customers’ needs on finding the right content, and found it necessary to build search capabilities in the Thai language that can search multiple local content providers. To serve the hundreds of thousands of visitors to our mobile portal, we needed a flexible, reliable and scalable search solution to serve as the single point of access for mobile content. MCN was able to offer a unique real-time solution in the Thai language with features and user experience that meets and exceeds the expectations of our customers. DTAC customers demand the fastest and freshest aggregated content, but they also demand relevance and easy accessibility,” says Thinakorn Thianprathum, DTAC Department Director, Product Development. “MCN’s turnkey mobile search platform enabled the DTAC portal to connect directly to a wide variety of content sources, with a cost-effective implementation in less than a month.”

“MCN continues to innovate mobile search solutions that support the world’s fastest growing mobile markets,” said Marc Bookman, CEO of MCN, Inc. Our real-time search management platform enables mobile brands to build the most usable search solutions in a fraction of the time it takes traditional search engine providers.”

An analysis of federated mobile search and its impact on the market and the increasingly threatening position of MCN will be in the next edition of the Mobile Search Analyst. Future editions will also include a competitive analysis of Targetize music search vs MCN’s FM Radio search.
