Medio’s response on ODP vs Search Application

by: admin Thursday, February 7th, 2008

So, as a follow on to the blog I posted below with regards to the new Medio ODP, Michael Libes, Chief Architect and co-Founder of Medio pinged me with a couple of points. Also he sent me a screen shot - Download tzones_odp_overview.jpg

First of all I want to say what a great title Chief Architect is and I am seriously thinking about calling myself Founder and Chief Architect GoMo News. But anyway – the points were quite interesting and I thought I would share them.

From my original post
Medio’s ODP and its focus on search, popularity based predictive dictionary is in the right direction. Its educational graphics –seem spot on. The press release doesn’t say if this is a UIQ service or one of Medio’s own? I will find out.

Mr. Libes response
The entire client is Medio technology. The predictive dictionary consists of a few thousand popular search terms, not an English dictionary, and it gets updated over-the-air as popularity changes.

Michael also commented on the difference between a Search application and ODP. This is interesting as in Europe we have java clients which are applications but apparently this is an ODP on the scale of an O2 Active as includes all the services from t-zones and not just segments (e.g. shopping, music etc.)

This Medio ODP is one of the first in North America, if not the first.

Rating: one minute I’m pr’d the next I stand corrected
